The Weissenborn Style 2 was offered as early as 1916 (though not known as a Style 2 at that stage) and continued in to the 30’s.
Taken from the Tonk brothers Co catalogue from the late 1920’s the Style two is described as: “Back and sides of selected Koa, Top of Selected Koa. Fingerboard of selected Koa inset with fancy selected pearl position marks and fretted with white holly. Top and bottom edges surrounded with black binding. Fingerboard bordered with white binding. Sound hole surrounded with rope and ring of genuine wood marqueterie. Finish of highest grade and hand rubbed to a gloss. Body depth 3 inches”
The Anderwood Authentic Style 2 has been patterned from a wonderful circa 1927 Style 2 on loan to us from a customer. Every detail has been captured to ensure an absolute true recreation. Being built in the same way as the originals has meant our instruments have a lightweight feel yet are still strong.
As is correct for this period, full hot hide glue is used across the construction. We build using only the finest old grown and slow dried Koa wood, and then finished using a hand rubbed nitrocellulose lacquer. Every attention to detail has been taken to authentically replicate a immaculate vintage instrument in look, feel and tone.
As the original Style 2’s were, our Style 2 is constructed using a plainer grained "Selected" Koa. If you would prefer a more figured grain prices are also available for a premium grain “extra Special” option for your build.
